What to Do When Your Bulbs and Plants Arrive

Please open the box immediately and check the contents. The ventilated bags help maintain the correct moisture levels, but storage conditions change during shipping. Your bulbs should feel solid and firm. Bare root plants and plugs should feel lightly damp – not wet and not completely dry.

If you are unable to plant right away, store the opened box in a cool, dark place away from heat and freezing temperatures. Most bulbs may be stored in their bags for up to a month. Bare root plants and plugs may be stored for up to 2 weeks. Check moisture levels often and moisten plants lightly if needed. If you need to delay planting for more than 2 weeks, plants should be started indoors in nursery pots filled with moist growing mix. Provide good light, regular moisture, and move them outdoors as soon as possible.
